The COVID-19 pandemic continues to dominate headlines, and an upswing in cases following a period of relative calm has specialists reconsidering our COVID future.
The present rise is mostly attributed to the subvariant Omicron, which accounted for most of the cases in the United States recently.
Dr. Fauci warns, White House COVID advisor, that while the occurrence is increasing, it does not appear to be linked to an upsurge in hospitalizations or fatal illness.

1. Masks on Airplane
Since the beginning of the epidemic, the requirement for masks on airlines and public transit has been a cause of constant dispute.
According to Reuters, President Joe Biden enacted the federal mask rule in February 2021 (with airline companies requiring masks from spring 2020), and it has subsequently been extended three or more times.
The CDC extended the order once more on April 13, this time for another 15 days, until May 3. Despite the fact that it was supposed to conclude on April 18, the CDC decided to prolong it owing to an increase in COVID cases.
Dr. Fauci, during the interview, advised Americans to observe the CDC’s advice and continue to use face masks when traveling. However, he said that Americans “must exercise their own personal choice” before boarding their next trip.

Fauci’s comments correspond to earlier this month’s talks with the Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee (VRPAC) of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) who met on April 6 to discuss the possibility of updating existing vaccines to improve effectiveness, and whether the process should be comparable to the one used to update flu vaccines every year.
The group of epidemiologists did not make a definitive resolution on these issues, but Dr. Fauci warns that we might have to cope with COVID, just like we do with the flu.
