There are plenty of things you’re not permitted to do once you’ve boarded a plane. This may range from consuming your own alcohol to bringing anything combustible in your carry-on.

Such flying rules aren’t just recommendations. Airlines have been reported to block specific people from traveling indefinitely, and this has only increased in recent years in connection with COVID-based carrier limitations.

So, if you’re planning to board a BA2 flight anytime soon, learn of this restriction that will be in effect for at least the next few weeks.

1. Don’t Forget Your Masks

Before you go to the airport, don’t forget to get your airplane mask. The Transit Security Administration (TSA) recently stated that the mask policy for airlines will be extended until May 3 and for public transit and transportation hubs.

The mandate, which the Security Directives and Emergency Amendment established, was supposed to expire on April 18, but it will be extended by at least 15 days due to this latest decision.

According to the make risk decision step and in view of the increase of COVID cases, the TSA decided to extend its mask mandate in agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). “There have been spikes in the 7-day trend line of COVID-19 cases in the U.S. since early April 2022,” TSA said.

2. Why is Restriction Being Extended?

According to CDC data, infections in the United States have increased by about 5% in the last week. This follows a gradual fall from February to March of more than a month.

The increased spread of BA.2, an Omicron subvariant, is responsible for a significant portion of the increase. According to the CDC, this variant is responsible for at least 72 % of COVID infections in the country as of April 8.

This isn’t the first instance that the government has decided to delay removing the public transportation mask rule. President Joe Biden first placed it in place in February 2021, with an initial expiration date of May 11, 2021. According to Reuters, the mandate has been modified at least three times in the last year.

The CDC will continue to monitor the transmission of COVID and examine the possible consequences of increased cases throughout the latest two-week extension. The TSA, for its part, will continue to work with the agency and “convey any changes” to the mask requirement to the general public.

“What they’re trying to do is provide a little bit more time to examine the potential impact of the surge in cases on serious disease, including hospitalization and deaths and health service capacity,” Jen Psaki noted during a briefing on April 13. “After those two weeks, they can decide what comes next.”

Some individuals did not expect the transportation mask rule to be prolonged past its April expiry date because COVID instances steadily declined in March.

However, according to Reuters, numerous airline or government officials assumed that the month-long extension of the mask mandate’s expiry date between March 18 to April 18 would be the final nationwide extension, significantly since the CDC loosened its indoor mask recommendation in February.
