Advancements in the medical world have made it easier for people to beat cancer, but a solid cure for this deadly disease is still to be discovered.

Despite that, there’s still a long list that we can make of the people we know that are battling cancer, and one of the biggest reasons for that is the unawareness of early symptoms and signs of cancer.

Early detection of cancer is the biggest edge a patient can have for a chance of successfully beating cancer, but early detection happens less than we’d want it to be, as people tend to ward off these symptoms as something light.

Today, we’re talking about the most prominent early sign of esophageal cancer, and if someone you know is showing this symptom, it’s a good time to visit the doctor’s office.

1. Factors That Determine Esophageal Cancer Risk

While anyone can be struck with the disastrous diseases of cancer, in terms of esophageal cancer, some people are more prone to get it than others, and it’s largely based on their habits.

According to the American Cancer Society, men are more likely to contract esophageal cancer than women, approximately four times as much. Age also contributes to the risk of esophageal cancer, which is why people under 55 are less likely to contract this type of cancer.

Other than that, your life choices greatly contribute to the risk of cancer. When talking about esophageal cancer, increased use of tobacco, high consumption of alcohol, drinking less water, and having little to no fruit in your diet can increase your overall risk of developing esophageal cancer.

2. The Biggest Sign of Esophageal Cancer

Also termed as the cancer of the throat, very few cases of esophageal cancer go without any prevalent symptoms. However, detecting these symptoms at the right time is what makes a difference.

Talking about the biggest symptom of this type of cancer, it’s the feeling of suffocation and choking people feel when they’re trying to swallow anything, whether it’s food or something as light as water.

Occasionally having trouble swallowing something, however, isn’t the only issue. The cause of concern here is that this type of persistent problem in swallowing can lead to a whole lot of other problems, which include full-fledged choking on food, persistent dysphagia, and more.

Bottom Line

As we always preach, prevention is better than cure, and when talking about cancer, it’s the only path you can follow. Esophageal cancer, better termed as the cancer of the throat, presents itself as a persistent feeling of having something stuck down your throat.

If you or someone else is experiencing something like this, it’s best to visit the doctor, not only just for esophageal cancer, but the various other diseases this type of problem can branch into.
