Supplements are a great way to get the vitamins your body needs without consuming a lot of healthy greens, vegetables, and grains. Many companies market supplements as having tremendous health benefits but often fall short of expectations.
Because of the market growth and increased competition, supermarkets have also begun selling supplements, especially those related to weight loss. But unfortunately, even though people are aware an FDA approved weight loss supplement would be the best choice, they still fall for marketing gimmicks.
Also, FDA weight loss supplements follow the FDA requirements and state everything truthfully without making over-the-top claims.
Recently, the FDA warned that a supplement that is widely sold by Amazon and Walmart could be potentially hazardous. Therefore, people consuming it should stop taking the supplement immediately.

Even though the FDA looks over the medications and dietary supplements sold in the market, the herbal or dietary supplements are not required to verify the health claims they make when marketing or as printed on the labels since they are not FDA approved.
1. OTC Supplements vs Doctor Prescribed
Many supplements are recommended by doctors, but they are prescribed only when they are not interacting with any other medications that the patient is consuming.
For example, people with heart or liver disease cannot self-prescribe supplements because the effect of their ongoing medications might diminish to some extent.
Similarly, medications like over the counter nitroglycerin should not be combined with supplements that cause the blood vessels to relax as it can cause low blood pressure that can prove to be fatal.
FDA warned that a supplement with address labels Walmart printed should never be taken with blood vessel relaxing medications.
2. FDA Issues Warning Against Supplement Sold by Walmart
The announcement was made on September 28th by the FDA. Proper Trade LLC, which has the My Stellar Lifestyle brand, voluntarily recalled two lots of the Wonder Pill dietary supplement. This product works by relaxing the blood vessels to enhance male sexual performance.
The batches have lot numbers 31853-501 and 20210912 and expire in September 2024. Amazon notified the FDA that the products had high amounts of tadalafil.
While this is an FDA-approved ingredient used to treat erectile dysfunction, using it in Wonder Pill, an unapproved drug, is not allowed by the FDA since the company has not established the ingredient’s safety.
Those with medical issues could have serious health risks from consuming supplements that the FDA does not administer. For example, the ingredient can cause life-threatening blood pressure drops if combined with nitroglycerine.
Nitroglycerine is commonly taken by patients with chronic diabetes, blood pressure, or heart disease. Even though no one has reported adverse effects of the supplement, the FDA warns that the usage of the supplement should be suspended immediately.
This is not the first time that the FDA has warned against using non-FDA-approved medications and supplements.
For example, two years back, the FDA recalled around 50 weight loss and male performance enhancement pills and warned people not to consume these “dangerous supplements.”
Final Words
FDA warns that if the Wonder pill supplement is used by people also consuming the nitroglycerin supplement, they can experience low blood pressure that can be life-threatening.
