You do not necessarily need to throw a pair of shoes away if they have a bad odor. Grocery stores have several options of shoe deodorizer brands you can choose from. However, you can eradicate the bacteria that frequently create shoe odor using a variety of common household products.

In today’s hack, we resort to using a tea bag as a natural shoe odor eliminator. You can save your beloved shoes and cut costs by getting rid of the odor from your pair of shoes.

Check further below the preparation method!

1. Brew Black Tea Bags in Boiling Water

Black tea has a lot of tannins, making it an effective shoe odor eliminator because of its ability to kill microorganisms. One tea bag for each shoe should be brewed in boiling water for roughly three minutes.

You might wish to use a household supply to remove the hot tea bag to avoid getting burnt. You may securely remove your tea bags with the use of a fork, spoon, or tweezers.

When you take the tea bags out of the boiling water, let them cool for a while. It will be simpler to manipulate using your fingertips as a result.

A single tea bag per shoe may be sufficient to get rid of mild smells. If an odor is really overpowering, you might need additional black tea bags.

2. Put Your Natural Shoe Deodorizer inside Your Pair of Shoes

After steeping, the tea bags should still be wet. The tannins will be able to penetrate the insole of your shoe thanks to the moisture and more successfully combat the bacteria that cause odor.

You could wish to place more tea bags across each insole’s entire length, from the shoe’s heel to its toe, if the stench is particularly potent.

No need to go fetch in grocery stores when your household products can do the trick!

3. Let the Shoe Odor Eliminator Sit for an Hour

Though a mere household supply, black tea is effective in reducing or getting rid of the smell in your pair of shoes after being left there for an hour. Next, take out the tea bags, blot off any moisture that is still present, and let your shoe air dry.

You might wish to leave the shoe deodorizer in your shoes for a maximum of two hours if the stench is really severe.

A blow dryer might help you complete the drying process more quickly. To dry the shoe thoroughly, simply direct the blow dryer to stream hot air into the footwear.

Bottom Line

Next time, skip grocery stores’ shoe odor eliminator section and run to the household products section to buy a tea bag set. Keep it at your disposal whenever your pair of shoes start smelling filthy.

If this household supply trick does not work for you, try to change the insole of your shoe with a new one and solve the problem for good.
