It can be quite irritating when you go to the pharmacy to pick up your usual prescription, or any meds for that matter, only to find out that it has not been prepared yet.
Delays of that sort are always terrible especially if you run a busy schedule, but that is not as terrible as some companies having the ability to decide not to fill your prescription anyway, and the odds of that happening to you have just increased by a good chance.
Major pharmacies in the US have started blocking a very common medicine that plenty of people use.
Telehealth services have been around for quite some time now, but due to COVID, they have become more prominent as they provided consultations for whatever the patients needed without compromising anyone’s safety since they respected the social distancing required.

One area in which they have truly excelled during that period is mental health as all sorts of therapy sessions were provided.
However, a concern that became more prominent was that as the numbers of those who are using this service have risen, so did the numbers of certain medications prescribed in relation to mental health through this same exact service.
One particular medicine whose numbers increased was Adderall. This drug, although approved by the FDA, is considered “high abuse potential”, regardless of that however, it is still accepted for medical use.
Even though they are allowing its usage, they have advised pharmacies to sparingly distribute it. This is simply an attempt to stop people from being dependent on the drug, as that could be a problem on its own and cause a lot of damage.
Due to this increase in demand regarding Adderall, many pharmacies have started to block filling up its prescriptions, especially those coming from telehealth providers.
A CVS spokesperson came out with a statement saying that they have a team to flag whatever could potentially be “excessive prescribing practices”.

Some delays were actually due to the confusion around telehealth’s policies, and one telehealth provider has actually decided to stop prescribing Adderall altogether.
