Vaccinated People Aged Over 50 Must Do This Now, Dr. Fauci Warns

Several people in the U.S have been enjoying the gradual decrease in COVID cases for the past few weeks. But unfortunately, that couldn’t last indefinitely as, according to the CDC, cases are on the rise again in the United States, with a roughly 5% increase in infections in the last week.

Despite this, many individuals have already pushed the pandemic to the back of their minds since most limitations and safeguards were relaxed across the United States as numbers improved.

However, COVID instances have recently increased, prompting new cautions from some of the country’s leading virus experts, aimed mostly at people who have let their guard down.

1. What Does Fauci Say?

Dr. Fauci, in his latest statement to MSNBC, discussed what the rise in coronavirus infections cases across the country could imply for certain people.

Fauci, on the fourth dose, said that some patients who have already been immunized should have another COVID immunization shot right now. When asked if these people should get another booster now or wait, Dr Fauci strongly suggested people aged 50 or over receive the fourth dose.

2. What’s Being Done?

The CDC and FDA have updated their authorizations and guidelines for allowing older individuals along with some immunocompromised people to get a second booster dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.

Moreover, it’s crucial for anyone to get the dose if they had received the first booster shot four months ago. However, conflicting messages and discussions among health experts have left several people aged 50 and over confused about whether or not they should be getting a fourth COVID shot.

3. Should You Get Another Dose?

The CDC’s latest guideline does not state that anyone over the age of 50 who has got the Kroger field vaccine before should get another dose. Instead, the agency only stated that these people “may choose” to obtain a second booster rather than advocating it directly, as they did in the past.

However, according to the New York Times, a recent Israeli study of patients aged 60 and up supported the agency’s decision. The findings suggested that those who had received a fourth dosage of the Pfizer vaccine had a lower rate of COVID infection and severe sickness than those who had only received three injections.

However, as several experts have pointed out, the Israeli study excludes those on the younger end of the CDC’s new advice. The fact is that Fauci is considering part of the CDC initiative. However, some experts argue that there is not enough evidence for people aged 50 or 60 to get another dose.

While some believe that a few people over 50 can safely skip the fourth injection. For instance, someone between the ages of 50 and 65 who have had an Omicron infection recently and has no medical concerns might definitely wait.

In addition, people may be able to skip an extra booster if they are already well-protected against serious illness.

Final Thoughts

Several experts agree that there are two subgroups of people who should get their second dose as soon as feasible.

This dose is confirmed to be especially significant for people 65 and older, as well as those 50 and older who have underlying health concerns that enhance their risk of severe disease from COVID-19, since they are the most likely to benefit from an additional booster dose at this time.
