1. Hard Cheese

If you don’t want to waste your hard-earned money, you should check the holes, color, and texture of hard cheese. It shouldn’t have a white crust, and the consistency should be uniform.

Moreover, you should check if the whole chunk has an even distribution of holes. If you squeeze it a little, it should restore its shape.

2. Meat

If you’re buying meat, how do you know it’s fresh? Here’s the top-secret: The color of fresh meat is pink, not brown or red. Check the fat streaks. They should be very light and glistening.

Buying good meat is easy – if you touch it, it should return to its initial shape. Moreover, it shouldn’t stick to your fingers.

3. Ground Coffee

If you prefer the best value for your money, you should buy averaged-price ground coffee. The cheap ones aren’t that good, while you’re just wasting money on expensive coffee because it tastes the same.

Also, you should buy coffee in metal or glass jars because they’re of better quality than the ones you find in plastic pots. Don’t forget to check the expiry date; it should be at most 18 months.

4. Honey

If you need honey in your food recipes, you should buy natural honey. How will you tell whether you’re purchasing the real deal? Raw honey has a uniform, transparent color. Moreover, you’ll notice a lovely, specific smell.

Here’s a secret to know if you’re buying quality honey – if you drop a few on your fingers, your skin absorbs it quickly.

5. Ice Cream

If ice cream is your favorite food, you should know how to buy it. You shouldn’t purchase berry-flavored ice creams or popsicles if you want natural ingredients. Instead, you can opt for the ones with gumdrops, candied fruit, or nuts.

6. Chocolate

When buying chocolate, you should read the label and ensure that the list of ingredients is short if you want a better quality bar. Moreover, you know that it’s the real thing if it has cocoa.

On the other hand, artificial chocolate has cocoa derivatives. Therefore, you should pick a bar with cocoa oil instead of vegetable oil.

7. Fish

Are you planning to buy fish? First, you should choose one that has bright eyes. If the eyes are bulging and cloudy, the fish is no longer fresh. Moreover, the gills should be pink or bright red.

Finally, you know you get the best value for your money if the tail freely hangs when you hold the whole fish.

8. Bread

Is bread your staple food? Ensure that you spend your hard-earned money well by buying fresh bread that’s soft. Want to know a secret? Bread in plastic bags isn’t as tasty as the freshly-packed ones. However, they maintain their freshness longer.
