ALS is short for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. This disease mainly affects nerves and many people in the US have been diagnosed with it. People usually find out about this when they are around 55 to 75 years old, unfortunately most of them only live up to 5 years after symptoms start to develop.
With how low the survival rate is and how late this usually gets diagnosed, it is important to be able to catch the first early signs. More on this is further in the article.
If you start noticing any difficulty walking, then it might be an early sign of ALS. So you might want to get checked by a professional. Since this disease affects nerves, then it also affects neurons etc.
This means that as those neurons start to die off, they can no longer send messages to the muscles, specifically those that help with movement. Hence the recommendation of seeing a professional if or when you notice any difficulties walking.

According to experts, this is one of the early signs because your muscles become stiff and not as responsive. Stumbling is also an early warning. Experts add that you will most likely not feel any pain when this starts to happen, your muscles will just not be reacting how you are used to them.
They further explain that this might start in one leg only before it becomes a noticeable issue. The issue with this is that many people let these symptoms go unnoticed as they do not pay much attention to them until the disease evolves and starts to make itself noticeable.
The bad news is that this does not only affect your legs and walking abilities, but also speaking, swallowing, and even breathing. These symptoms might manifest as excessive saliva, difficulty breathing and/or swallowing, and not speaking properly.
