If you are jumping on to a plane for whatever reason, you will most likely have something to eat or to drink, and with how limited your choices are on a plane, you have to work with what is available to you since you cannot get off and get your own food and/or drinks. If you are also familiar with flight service, you might have heard rumors here and there about how some things work on the plane, whether that is regarding service or even cleaning.

However, no rumor should keep you from getting hydrated midair, experts actually recommend you drink up to 8 ounces of water when flying, just keep in mind what to not drink for that purpose. This article will be your guide for what to not order on a flight, so keep reading to find out which drinks you might want to avoid when flying.

1. Coffee and tea.

Both coffee and tea seem like the first things you might think about ordering when on a plane. First, because they are available everywhere, which means that there is no reason as to why you might not be able to find them during your flight, and second, there is no way they would taste bad. So you are guaranteed to get a good, warm, “delicious” drink every time.

Reality says something else though. According to a flight attendant that went viral on social media, those drinks specifically might just be the nastiest you can get midair. These drinks are used with the wager supply provided, most in business consider it absolutely disgusting if not worse. The coffee machines themselves are rarely cleaned, unless they break and need fixing. Rule number one when flying, only consume liquids that come in a can.

2. Tap water.

After what has been mentioned above regarding coffee and tea, there is no doubt it would not be clear why you should avoid tap water when flying. We get it, hydration is important, but anything served straight up from the plane supply has a very high chance of containing bacteria since they rarely clean those parts.

A study conducted on major American airlines found that most of the airlines did not pass the score for “healthy water”, a big number of them -which is 7 out of 23- were serving contaminated water. Yikes! You can still drink water on the plane just make sure it is from a sealed water bottle.

3. Bloody Mary.

This could seem like a go-to on a long flight or just if you feel like having something fun, except maybe not on a plane and here is why. This drink is so filled with salty components and with not much movement during the flight, you end up with puffy legs. If you want to order this drink, make sure you have your water on hand as well to lessen that effect and help flush out any extra sodium you don’t need.

4. “Double” alcoholic drinks.

Once again, alcoholic drinks might seem like a fun idea when you have nothing better to do or to be sober for, but not on a flight. One thing you need to know before you start drinking on the plane is that one drink midair equals two on the ground.

This could get you to be really drunk by the time you get to your destination, which is not the state you want to be in when you are in a place that requires all your focus and attention like an airport. Not only that, but you could also get really dehydrated and very quickly too. For all these reasons, maybe lay off on the drinks until you arrive or at least do not have more than one drink.

5. Sweet juices and sodas.

Last but not least, the drinks you should also avoid on a plane are their sweet juices and sodas. Traveling is known to affect how you taste things, and just like you can easily get drunk quicker on a plane, you can also consume too much sugar on a plane because it essentially tastes lighter.

This can bring severe consequences and make your trip not so comfortable. You could start to feel dizzy, have a headache or even nausea; not a fun time. A great substitute would be adding vitamin C to your water, you get the flavor of juice while also hydrating and making sure you are not consuming too much of anything!
