The majority of us detest spider species, and those that are poisonous, like brown recluses and black widows, strike an appropriate amount of dread in us. However, there are many who are legitimately afraid of these arachnids, and it is difficult for them to avoid picturing the most awful things.
It would be smart for those who have a spider phobia to stop reading since there is a specific nightmare scenario that continues to occur recently in real life. Live spiders have been discovered in people’s ear canals on several occasions; two particularly frightening instances occurred recently.
If you are brave enough, continue reading to discover the symptoms these people complained of prior to seeking urgent care.
1. A Woman Told This Nightmare in a TikTok Video
A heartfelt Desirae Kelly posted a TikTok video about her ordeal of having something drained out of her ear canal; if you had the same procedure, you would probably be in tears as well.

Kelly declared on the recording, “They affirmed that probably a creature is inside my ear canal.” She says that although a medical professional was unable to identify it, it wasn’t a caterpillar and that it was coiled up in that spot. Kelly observes, predictably, that “it’s an uncomfortable sensation.”
The spider that the nurses later discovered while conducting a professional ear wax removal was still alive. Kelly comes back crying and shares the update. “A spider was present. It was sentient. I almost fainted. I will never go back to sleep again.”
2. She Described the Symptoms in Another TikTok Video
Kelly shared the symptoms that originally sent her to urgent care in an extended follow-up video she made after getting a ton of inquiries. She said that she sensed something in her ear canal causing her sleep disturbance at five in the morning. She began to feel it move shortly after that.
She experienced movement repeatedly in the waiting area of the urgent care facility that she went to as soon as it opened. This instance was excruciating. At the base of her ear canal, she felt as though an enormous mass of wax moving. It was really awkward.
The urgent care staff started the process of ear wax removal as soon as they had confirmation that there was something in there. Nothing was working at first. Kelly then reported feeling something creep out of her ear and settle on her sweatshirt.
After a while, the living spider dropped to the ground and began to crawl away until a nurse caught it. “I am traumatized,” Kelly says in conclusion. By taking extra measures, she has only been able to fall asleep, as she discloses: “I am not sure I will ever rest without earbuds again.”
3. A Woman in Taiwan Experienced the Same Nightmare
Although it would be nice to think that Kelly’s experience was a unique one, an investigative report detailing a similar story was just released. After hearing constant popping and shuffling noises in her left ear canal for four days, a 64-year-old Taiwanese lady made an appointment with nose, throat, and ear doctors.
She also had serious sleep disturbance issues. A tiny, live spider was found by the medical professional, together with the exoskeleton it had abandoned. The woman’s sole symptoms were the noises and sleep disturbance. Because this spider species was so little, she was not in agony. It measured only two or three millimeters.
4. Be Aware of the Symptoms Even the Occurrence Is Rare
In what way should a live spider in your ear concern you? Doctors highlight that probably not very. Throughout the span of their careers, the majority of ear doctors witness dozens, perhaps hundreds, of bugs or other arthropods in ear canals.
However, it is crucial to be aware of any odd symptoms and to get urgent care as soon as you can. A 2019 study written in the Journal of Family Medicine and Primary Care discovered that live insects make up about 14% of the foreign items extracted from patients’ ear canals.
Lovely dreams!
