There is a high possibility that your refrigerator is stocked with items like eggs, avocados, and beans if maintaining a healthy blood sugar level falls under your major health goals.

Some registered dietitians claim that eating more complex carbohydrates, high-fiber meals and following a high-protein diet as well as limiting added sugars is a basic approach for better blood sugar balance and hormone regulation.

This type of eating is healthy for mental and physical health. You will experience less mood fluctuations. The cardiovascular system benefits from maintaining normal blood sugar levels as well.

However, following a balanced diet is only one component if you aspire to lower blood sugar level; you also need to take your beverage intake into account. Along with food, some drinks maintain stable blood sugar levels while others might make it unstable.

Having said that, let’s find out which beverages are best and which are worst for blood sugar balance!

1. Worst Drinks That Ruin Your Blood Sugar

Drinking alcohol should be strictly avoided if you wish to prevent a spike in your blood sugar. Alcoholic beverages may alter hormone regulation and hinder insulin’s capacity to function properly to lower blood sugar levels. Unstable blood sugar may result from this.

Due to their propensity for being packed with carbohydrates, large beers, cocktails, and other strong alcoholic beverages are particularly detrimental to maintaining blood sugar balance.

Drinking alcohol may conflict with any blood sugar-management medications you are taking. Consumers should refrain from drinking when they are hungry or when they have lower blood sugar than usual.

In addition to being vigilant about alcohol consumption, registered dietitians also warn against beverages abundant in added sugars, namely sweet tea, soda cans, energy drinks, and any other sweetened drink.

Any of these beverages should therefore be limited or avoided if you wish to maintain a stable blood sugar level.

2. Best Drinks to Lower Blood Sugar

There are two drinks that proved efficient in maintaining your blood sugar balance, which are water and unsweetened green tea.

  • Water

You must have anticipated this one, right? Although it may seem obvious, just 47% of Americans get the recommended amount of water, the most crucial beverage for optimal blood sugar balance.

While staying hydrated won’t change the level of your blood sugar, it can help you avoid hyperglycemia, by assuring better hormone regulation, which affects urine output and glucose equilibrium.

It is true that staying hydrated by itself won’t lower blood sugar levels, dehydration can since too much highly focused blood sugar may trigger elevated levels.

  • Unsweet Green Tea

Having a balanced diet, from consuming high-fiber meals to following a high-protein diet as well as avoiding added sugars and staying hydrated, is paramount in a healthy lifestyle.

However, if you happen to be unable to lower blood sugar or you experience a sudden spike in blood sugar levels, this drink is your savior.

Due to unsweetened green tea’s high concentration of a particular type of polyphenol, individuals who drank it observed improvements in their glucose metabolism and hormone regulation compared to those who consumed caffeine-free coffee or black tea.

Bottom Line

Your health goals require patience, discipline and research. It is indispensable to conduct research about the type of diet you want to have and ask one of your local registered dietitians if you fail to make a certain decision or you need any guidance whatsoever.

In sum, remember to give up sweetened drinks and alcoholic beverages if you want to control your blood sugar levels. Besides, never overlook the fact that staying hydrated is key for better health.
