We all had a stockpile of facial masks when the pandemic first emerged as mask mandates were among the prevalent preventive measures that were strictly imposed on everyone. Now, you might have a mask left here or there or you might have thrown all of them a long time ago.

It is unfortunately time to restock as mask mandates are bursting on the scene once again due to the latest COVID surge. Health officials reported a spike in COVID hospitalizations owing mostly to the new COVID variant.

Read below where mask mandates are being imposed on people!

1. An Increase in COVID Hospitalizations Prompted Mask Mandates

The new COVID variant has initiated a new pandemic surge, as reported by the CDC. The virus has been promulgating throughout the country continuously more, per the agency.

COVID hospitalizations and fatalities have been on the rise for the last few weeks, highlighting the high risk of the current situation. Therefore, medical facilities have decided to initiate mask mandates once again as a form of prevention and control over the current COVID cases.

Accordingly, the new COVID variant, JN.1, could boost the number of respiratory infections this winter.

2. Medical Facilities Have Enforced Mask Mandates

Vaccinations and former infection are helping individuals from contracting the virus again, and help those who get sick to recover fast. Nevertheless, the COVID cases surge has gone almost out of control, hence the enforcement of mask mandates.

The CDC reported that COVID cases saw an increase of roughly 20.4% by the beginning of the new year. Reinstating facial masks in medical facilities has been in force in six states so far, ABC news announced.

Health authorities argued that these mask mandates will help monitor the number of respiratory infections and protect people from developing more serious complications, especially in medical facilities that are full of people with compromised immunity systems.

3. More Public Areas Are Adopting These Preventive Measures

Amid the latest COVID surge, more public areas are reinstating mask mandates alongside hospitals and other medical facilities. ABC news declared that the Sandy Hook National Park has also imposed wearing facial masks amongst visitors.

Thereby, all individuals are obliged to wear a mask in every building of the New-Jersey-based national park. This was instigated by the growing figures of COVID cases and hospitalizations in that region. Determined COVID cases have been recorded in the location in question as well as neighboring counties.

4. Prevention Helps Monitor the Growing Number of Cases

A representative of the national park has confirmed that wearing facial masks is an obligation within the buildings of the park. That was initiated as a means of prevention, monitoring, and public health prioritization.

As an additional encouraging initiative, the park has facial masks for people who do not have one at their disposal on the site.
