After the holidays, you may want to treat your body a little better. From Halloween to New Year’s, we consume a lot of calories, so it’s common for individuals to consume healthy items like salads and green juice to detox afterwards.

As you plan to eat better this new year, here are some great tips from renowned dieticians. There are many benefits of green juice; however, that should not be your primary food.

You don’t need to look up the best green juice recipe to be healthy. In fact, variety is the key here. Your diet should be balanced!

1. Main Benefits of Green Juice

Green juice is a potent drink. It contains pulverized fresh produce like vegetables, herbs, and fruit. Some also like to add powdered supplements like collagen, spirulina, seed powders, etc. It is a nutrient-dense concoction.

Green juice benefits are many. For starters, some common benefits are:

  • Low blood sugar levels
  • Improved digestion
  • Lower blood cholesterol levels.

However, a green juice recipe isn’t enough for optimal health. The human body requires a combination of nutrients to keep functioning. The majority of those nutrients are found in sources like meat, poultry, lentils, grains, dairy products and more.

2. Certain Side Effects

According to experts, green juice isn’t as beneficial as whole produce. For instance, most nutrient-dense flesh is left out, containing minimal fat and proteins. Unfortunately, these juices are not very filling and can lead to hunger pangs.

Experts have noted that restricting oneself to green juices can result in long-term deficiencies that affect hair, nails, and skin and cause muscle loss and delayed wound healing.

Erin Palinski-Wade, RD, CDE, noted that green juices cause muscle loss and nutrient deficiencies and are unrealistic to sustain and affect metabolism.

Research also suggests that long terms side-effects of juicing also include:

  • Harm to kidneys
  • Increased risk of ore-diabetes
  • Upset stomach
  • Bowel irregularities
  • Risk of interactions with certain drugs

3. Eating Healthy This New Year

There’s no harm in trying that green apple juice you have been eyeing for some time. However, eating healthy means incorporating recommended fiber, protein, fats, and carbohydrates.

The best way to consume such juices is to replace just one meal. Alternatively, you can incorporate green juice powder in your morning smoothies for a more wholesome meal. Try this fantastic green juice recipe for weight loss to pick your favorite drink.

4. The Takeaway

The key to a healthy body is to exercise regularly and eat plenty of nutrient-dense meals. It’s also advisable to switch to alternatives like nut milk, whole wheat flour, legumes, lentils, quinoa, and honey.

In short, a healthy and balanced diet is an optimum way to maintain overall health and sustainability. If you want to start juicing, speak to your doctor if you are undergoing treatment for cardiovascular issues, kidney issues, or diabetes.
