All my life I was told not to drink milk after eating fish but never did I really get to know the real reason behind this. Did you ever wonder why?

Younger me used to think that fish might start swimming in my stomach if I drank anything after eating it, so out of fear I would avoid any liquid after devouring over the delicious fish my mom used to cook.

But what’s the actual reason? Some used to say that you may get phulbehri – a disease commonly known as Vitiligo. This is a condition where you develop white patches all over your body.

Little did I know it was a myth. There is no scientific evidence proving this. Instead of scumming into what you heard your entire life, it is necessary that you start asking questions and dig into the logic behind.

1. What Impact Can a Wrong Food Combo Have On Your Digestive System?

Consuming two protein rich foods such as yogurt and fruits, or fish and milk can be harmful to your digestive system. If it messes up, the toxins in the food will be hard to eliminate and they’d get accumulated in the body.

Milk lowers the temperature and fish increases the temperature of your body. The imbalance of body temperature can make you sick because both of these foods require different types of digestive juices to process and break them down, making them easy to digest.

Combining these can have a negative impact on “Vata dosha” which increases the burden on the digestive system and leads to the imbalancing of energies. Bloating, gas, and other digestive issues can be a common outcome.

2. Is There a Possibility of Developing Leukoderma with Milk and Fish?

Eating the fish and milk combo together can upset the “tumas guna” which causes certain chemical changes in our blood that might result in leucoderma. But again, not everyone is at risk of developing this.

Everyone has a unique body and unique system, what might work for you might not work for others and vice versa. Dermatologists recommend avoiding this combination, especially if you have a history of developing skin pigmentation or suffering from rash.

Having said that, it is still not scientifically proven that drinking milk after fish is in any way associated with Leukoderma. In fact, many famous restaurants all over the world merge fish, yogurt, and milk in their dishes. Moreover, nutritionists argue that this might be beneficial.

However, do not consume this combo if you have any kind of allergies!!
