The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced on April 27 that two brands of irons sold at Walmart and Bed, Bath & Beyond have an issue with the power cord. The CPSC received around 50 complaints about these irons.
Fortunately, these complaints did not include injury reports from an electric shock. The irons they purchased showed signs of overheating, including burning, sparking, and smoking.
Twelve complaints reported cord damage. However, there is an electric shock and fire hazard because of the cord bushing, which is not accurately placed in these irons. The two brands that have been recalled are:
1. Steamfast
Steamfast’s garment steamers and irons are pretty famous among the masses. It is a favorite electronics product brand among Americans. Many people use Steamfast’s garment steamers and irons for years before the need arises to purchase a new one.

However, this time the brand has reported two variants of irons having defective power cords, which present an electric and fire hazard. After the complaints received by the CPSC, the two variants of the Steamfast iron have been recalled.
The Away Travel Steam Iron and the Steamfast Home variants are affected. The recalled items have the subsequent serial numbers written on them:
- SF-727
- SF-720
- SF-717
310,000 of the defective Steamfast irons were sold across the country through the following platforms:
- Steamfast online
- Amazon online
- Walmart delivery and stores
- Bed, Bath & Beyond
Walmart has a vast network of stores nationwide. The trouble is that Steamfast doesn’t only sell at one Walmart store. Steamfast dispatches to various locations through the online delivery platform too.
Since so many platforms sell these irons, representatives say that we need to circulate the recall message as much as possible so there are no reports of injuries. Representatives also said, “If it were one Walmart store, the recall would have been easy.” If you purchased the defective piece through Walmart, visit during Walmart hours to return the product and accept store credit.
2. Brookstone
According to reports, the issue is only in one variant and one batch of Brookstone irons. The name of this variant is the “Brookstone Steam Bug Travel Steam Iron,” and the batch number is 606335.
This defective batch also had a power cord issue, because of which the CPSC received numerous complaints. Brookstone didn’t sell the defective pieces through Walmart delivery. They only sold these pieces on their website. Also, they exported some 5,000 irons to Canada. The suppliers then sold these products at different supermarkets.
