The US FDA has issued an emergency recall for products containing Raw Farm cheddar cheese due to several documented cases of illnesses. After having documented several reports of sickness over the last four months, Raw Farm has voluntarily withheld two cheddar cheese bricks and one shredded cheese item. This was mainly owing to an e. coli outbreak in the recalled products.

Thereby, find below further information on this public safety crisis!

1. These Cheese Products Are Subject to an FDA Recall

It is said that all impacted batches predate January 16, 2024. Any recalled product bought beyond this time or that is already on shelves is not covered by the recall. The impenetrable and translucent packaging of the cheese products features black writing on a white cover. At the center is a drawn image of two cattle in a field of grass.

Reports of illnesses have surfaced after consuming raw cheddar from the Sprouts wholesale and Bristol landowners, which has been distributed in retail stores around the nation. According to a statement from the USA FDA, ten people ended up becoming ill. There have been no recorded fatalities, though.

2. Potential E. Coli Outbreak Prompted the Recall

No samples of goods ingested by shoppers or items offered for purchase were found to be positive for E. Coli outbreak, according to a statement released by Raw Farm and uploaded on the US FDA website.

Being only dependent on stool samples, this recall is extremely cautious. Raw Farm restated in a recent release that no E. Coli test results had been obtained for any of its dairy products.

Rather than relying on test results or a clear link to customer sickness, they issued an unofficial recall out of caution and in collaboration with FDA/CDC information. Not eating raw cheddar was a complaint from a few of the sick patients. The public safety and well-being of customers come first.

3. Other Factors Are Suspected to Be the Underlying Cause

According to the US FDA’s inquiry report, full DNA sequencing of E. Coli isolates from sick individuals reveals a tight genetic relationship between them all. Thus, there is a good chance that the individuals involved in this outbreak have a frequent source of contamination.

Six out of eight patients who became ill and were questioned by local, state, and public safety officials mentioned consuming raw cheddar. It is advised that anyone who has bought the item discard it or replace it for a refund at the cheese store.

4. E. Coli Outbreak Symptoms Are Remarkable

According to the FDA, there is still work to be done to ascertain how the recalled products might have gotten tainted. Vomiting, excruciating pain in the stomach, and bloody stool are just a few of the bothersome signs that can result from an infection caused by E. coli. The FDA advises anyone who is exhibiting symptoms and thinks they could have E. Coli to see a medical practitioner.
