The Public Interest Research Group (PRIG) posted a report in February 2025 stating that there were almost 300 food recalls last year. Salmonella and Listeria are some of the illnesses that affected more than 1000 people, all due to 13 specific food products being recalled. Most of these are meat and chicken products. Read below to inform yourself of the most important ones you should avoid consuming.
1. Ready-To-Eat Bologna Meat
The issue of this meat product, according to Union, NJ-based Gaiser’s European Style Provisions Inc., after the withdrawal from the market, was the undeclared ingredients on the packaging. Many of their veal bologna products had undeclared chicken and/or pork; other chicken bologna products had undeclared pork and/or beef, and vice versa. A total of seven products do not comply with food labeling requirements. Luckily, no diseases have been reported due to the consumption of Ready-To-Eat Bologna, but it is highly advised to stop buying this recalled brand.
2. FreshRealm Chicken Alfredo Products
This Walmart and Kroger product has led to 17 illnesses across 13 different states, the main illness being listeriosis. Not only that, but 3 deaths have been reported because of the consumption of this product, according to the FSIS notice. The FSIS is still engaged in this recent recall of this ready-to-eat chicken alfredo.
3. Riverbend Ranch Beef Jerky Sticks
The FSIS confirmed that small pieces of transparent plastic were found in these beef jerky sticks following several reports. Both the Original and the Jalapeño Riverbend Ranch Beef Jerky Sticks were distributed in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. If you have any hesitations, you should immediately check with a doctor if you have consumed this product recently, although no cases of illnesses have been reported for now.

4. Kraft Heinz Turkey Bacon
Kraft Heinz Company is a South Carolina manufacturer of this fully cooked processed turkey product. You can find it nationwide, and it might be a source of listeriosis. Even though there are no reported cases, be careful if you present any symptoms of fever, headache, diarrhea, nausea, or fatigue, because in the case of listeriosis, it can lead to more severe consequences such as seizures.
Furthermore, highly processed and refined products should be avoided generally speaking. The effects of these artificial products are more negative than positive in almost all cases. Instead, opt for natural and organic alternatives that have no possibility of harming your health. Remember: you are what you eat.
