Whether you are warming up food leftovers from the previous evening or preparing some popcorn, the microwave is a fantastic tool for swiftly and simply preparing and reheating a wide variety of meals.

Even though this gadget is a true worker and microwave meals can turn out amazing, we cannot use it for every single food in our kitchen. Actually, using this cooking technique might be extremely risky in certain situations.

Learn from nutrition experts about which foods are best avoided in the microwave by reading below!

1. Eggs in the Shell

Over the years, we have seen an abundance of TikTok videos explaining how to cook poached eggs in the microwave, which is understandable given how difficult the process can be.

Yet, dietitian experts claim that there is an ultimate safety hazard to this. Eggs that are microwaved in their shells have the potential to burst, resulting in severe burns and injury.

Several instances of individuals who suffered serious burns after microwaving eggs were featured in a YouTube video that debunked fictitious social media scams. Because it can spray steaming water all over your body, it is particularly risky when it comes to poached eggs.

2. Raw Red Chili Peppers

According to dietitian Lisa Richards, when raw red chili peppers are microwaved, the chemical capsaicin is produced, giving them their fiery aroma.

Breathing difficulties and choking can result from capsaicin irritation of the throat, nostrils, and eyeballs. Furthermore, the steam produced when peppers are heated in a microwave may blister your skin and eyes.

3. Processed Meats

The microwave is not the best place to cook processed meats like hot dogs and pork sausage. Their high concentrations of nitrates and inhibitors have the potential to react negatively with the electromagnetic waves in the microwave, creating toxic chemicals.

The formation of cholesterol oxidation byproducts rose when processed meats were microwaved, per a 2015 study.

The oxidation byproducts of cholesterol have been shown to seriously jeopardize human safety, despite the fact that cholesterol is an essential biological component.

4. Frozen Meat

It might seem obvious to put that packet of frozen meat or chicken in the microwave while still defrosting if you realize you neglected to do it before supper.

However, there are a few reasons why preparing frozen microwave meals could be a bad choice. Food is not cooked through in a microwave in a consistent manner, and frozen meat might stay partially frozen in some places while being sufficiently warm in others.

This encourages the growth of bacteria which puts human safety at risk of foodborne illnesses and other health problems.

Additionally, heating frozen meat in the microwave can give it an unsavory feel, with some pieces turning chewy or rough.

5. Grapes

We do not know why you would be microwaving grapes, but please resist the urge if it happens. Microwaving grapes is a true safety hazard because they can ignite a plasma-like fire within the microwave.

This would severely damage your device and perhaps raise a serious fire hazard. After conducting extensive research, scientists discovered that the reason this phenomenon happens is because microwaves produce electromagnetic sparks.

6. Plain Water

Often while making tea and not feeling inclined to use the teapot, you will pop a cup of water into the microwave.

However, you can be subjecting yourself to a fire hazard based on what you are using to microwave the water. Typically, when water is heated to a boiling temperature, it boils and begins to bubble, producing steam.

On the other hand, if you put pure water in an extremely sealed, spotless container—like a glass or a brand-new cup—it may burst inside the heating device.

At that time, the water can be heated beyond its boiling point without bubbling overtly. Subsequently, moving the container or adding something, like coffee, causes the water to immediately begin bubbling and splatter hot water everywhere.
