Among many other deadly diseases such as the likes of diabetes and heart disease, millions of people around the globe are diagnosed with stomach cancer. And much in the same way as the other mentioned diseases, it also claims numerous lives with every passing year.

Stomach cancer, also referred to as gastric cancer, isn’t much of a cause of concern in the United States as the fatality rate of this particular disease is fairly low, especially when compared to diabetes and heart disease.

However, this doesn’t mean it has reason to be taken lightly as this particular cancer is said to be the third-leading cause of cancer deaths around the globe.

The main reason this particular cancer is the third-leading cause of cancer deaths around the world is that the symptoms of stomach cancer are sometimes hard to identify as they are often overlooked as some minor cause of concern.

Symptoms of stomach cancer, if identified early on during the onset of the disease, can lead to a significantly better prognosis for the patient.

But unfortunately, stomach cancer symptoms are often ignored because they are often mistaken for symptoms of other diseases that aren’t as life-threatening.

Most of the time, you will come to find that gastric cancer is often left undiagnosed, not because the medical professional has misidentified your symptoms, but rather because the disease itself is asymptomatic for the longest time until it has later progressed into something far worse than what it currently is.

Even the early signs of gastric cancer, when they eventually do begin to arise in a patient, such as some unexplainable stomach pain or a dramatic weight loss, they don’t usually occur until gastric cancer has progressed into one of the later stages of cancer.

The most commonly overlooked early sign of stomach cancer is said to be the sudden dramatic weight loss. This early sign of gastric cancer is the one that is most often overlooked because weight loss isn’t really linked to any specific cancer.

Doctors and other medical professionals commonly misattribute this gastric cancer symptom to other causes of weight loss.

Oftentimes, a person who has just undergone this specific early sign of gastric cancer wouldn’t even acknowledge it as a medical issue themselves, let alone go out of their way to go and seek out the advice of a medical professional.

It is only when the unexplainable stomach pain arises does anyone begin to think that there might be an underlying serious medical illness.

Weight loss is actually a very common symptom of gastric cancer, seen in as many as 48% of patients!
