Unknowingly, you may be consuming more calories through these beverages. However, they may be empty calories and not add anything to your body weight.

The Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard University researchers discovered that increased sugary drinks could add 358 calories. Women gained weight significantly in eight years.

If you cut your calories in half from these beverages, you’re more likely to lose at least 18 pounds yearly. 

Here are 9 beverages you should stop drinking when you reach 40:

1. Flavored Coconut Water

You can drink plain coconut water to replenish electrolytes. However, flavored coconut water has added sweeteners and syrups that make you consume more sugar.

2. Lemonade

You may remember making your favorite drink from a lemonade recipe as a kid. You may also have sold them in your driveway during summer. 

However, a cup has high sugar and calorie content. Excessive consumption can make your metabolism sick.

3. Yogurt Drink

You may have known that you can boost your belly health by consuming probiotics.

 First, ensure that you’re not consuming a sugar-loaded yogurt drink. Then, check the label to determine how much sugar each bottle has.

4. Pumpkin Spice Lattes

Pumpkin Spice Lattes are comforting, but you should pass up the chance of having a cup because you’ll only add 39 grams of sugar and 300 calories. 

If you want a caffeine fix, stick to black coffee with cream. And if you really crave this seasonal latte, you should only have it once a month.

5. Tonic Water

Ordering gin and tonic isn’t better than dark sodas because 12-ounce tonic water can add 32 grams of sugar and 124 calories. 

Bet you don’t know that soda has seven grams less than a 12-ounce cup.

6. Root Beer Float

A root beer float isn’t a great idea, especially if you’re health-conscious. 

But, on the other hand, if you still want a taste of this root beer and ice cream, ensure you share it with someone.

7. Wine Cooler

This sugar-spiked drink will only add inches to your waistline; therefore, you should opt for up to two glasses of red wine to take advantage of its antioxidant properties.

8. Skim Milk

Traditional skim milk is low in calories, but its fat-soluble vitamins mean you won’t get all the benefits. 

Therefore, you should choose organic milk with more conjugated linoleic acid and omega-3 levels.

9. Canned Energy Drinks

Energy drinks are overpriced cocktails that provide a surge of energy. However, they have harmful sweeteners. 

Moreover, compared to regular soda, they damage your teeth quickly.

It would help if you trimmed down the consumption of your favorite unhealthy beverages. Instead, opt to drink water if ever you feel thirsty.
